Terms of Service
By creating an account with Business Tax Pro, you agree to these terms. Plain English wherever possible; we'll flag where the lawyer-speak matters.
1. What Business Tax Pro Portal does
Business Tax Pro is a software tool that helps you upload bank statements, categorize transactions, and prepare files for your accountant. We are not a CRA-licensed tax preparer and we do not file returns on your behalf. Final responsibility for the accuracy of any T1, T2, T4, T4A, or HST filing rests with you and your accountant.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 (or the age of majority in your province) to use Business Tax Pro.
- Keep your password confidential. Anyone who knows it can act on your behalf.
- You're responsible for all activity in your account.
- If you suspect unauthorized access, change your password immediately and email info@businesstaxpro.ca.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload files you don't have the right to share
- Try to access another customer's data
- Probe for vulnerabilities without our written permission (security researchers — please email us, we respond within 14 days)
- Use Business Tax Pro to commit fraud, tax evasion, or money laundering
- Resell, sublicense, or distribute Business Tax Pro as your own product
4. Tax calculations — for planning only
Tax estimates in Business Tax Pro (federal/Ontario corporate tax, HST owing, paystubs, etc.) are calculated using publicly published CRA formulas and rates. They are best-effort estimates intended for planning, not for filing with CRA.
Before remitting payroll to CRA, verify each paystub against CRA's PDOC tool. Before filing T2/T1/HST, have a licensed Canadian accountant review the figures.
Business Tax Pro is not liable for penalties, interest, or other costs arising from filings based on our estimates.
5. Fees and billing
Business Tax Pro is a paid subscription service. There is no free tier — access to the portal requires an active subscription. All prices are in Canadian dollars and exclude applicable taxes (HST).
The service is offered on three plans. All three provide the same software and the same unlimited use of it; they differ only in the level of human support included, as described on the pricing page. You choose your plan at checkout and may change it at any time from Billing in the portal.
Starter — $35/month, or $294/year
- Billed monthly: you are charged $1 CAD today for your first month, and the subscription then renews automatically at $35 CAD per month — the first $35 charge occurring 30 days after signup, and monthly on that date thereafter.
- You may cancel at any time before the 30-day mark and you will not be charged the $35. The $1 first-month fee is non-refundable.
- Billed annually: $294 CAD is charged upfront and covers 12 months (a 30% saving against $420 billed monthly). The annual plan renews automatically at the then-current annual price on each anniversary, unless cancelled before the renewal date.
- Email support.
Assisted — $50/month, or $420/year
- Billed monthly: $50 CAD is charged at signup and automatically each month thereafter. This plan has no introductory month, because the human support it includes begins in month one.
- Billed annually: $420 CAD is charged upfront and covers 12 months (a 30% saving against $600 billed monthly). The annual plan renews automatically at the then-current annual price on each anniversary, unless cancelled before the renewal date.
- Live support + up to 2 meetings a month, as needed.
Managed — $100/month, or $840/year
- Billed monthly: $100 CAD is charged at signup and automatically each month thereafter. This plan has no introductory month, because the human support it includes begins in month one.
- Billed annually: $840 CAD is charged upfront and covers 12 months (a 30% saving against $1,200 billed monthly). The annual plan renews automatically at the then-current annual price on each anniversary, unless cancelled before the renewal date.
- A bookkeeper reviews your books monthly, plus meetings whenever you need them.
A valid payment method is collected and securely stored by our payment processor (Stripe) at signup on every plan. Each is a recurring subscription — it continues until you cancel.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from Billing in the portal, which opens the Stripe customer portal. Cancellation stops future renewals; it does not retroactively refund the current billing period. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not charge a cancellation fee.
Failed payments
If a payment fails, we retain your access for a short grace period (currently 3 days) while the payment is retried. If payment is not received in that window, portal access is suspended until billing is brought current. Your data is not deleted on suspension — see section 7 for deletion.
Refunds and price changes
Beyond the cancellation rights above, refunds are at our discretion and may be requested within 14 days of a charge by emailing info@businesstaxpro.ca. We will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email before any price increase takes effect, and you may cancel before it applies.
6. Intellectual property
The Business Tax Pro software, brand, designs, and documentation are owned by us. Your data — bank statements, transactions, paystubs, invoices, anything you upload — remains owned by you. We have a limited licence to process it solely to deliver the service.
7. Termination
You can delete your account anytime from Settings — Privacy. Upon deletion:
- Your profile and all associated business data are scheduled for permanent deletion within 30 days
- Within that window, you can change your mind by emailing info@businesstaxpro.ca
- After 30 days, deletion is irreversible
- We retain anonymized audit metadata for 24 months for security and compliance
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, are inactive for 24+ months, or pose a security risk. We'll give you 30 days' notice unless safety or legal compliance requires immediate action.
8. Warranties — what we promise
Business Tax Pro is provided "as is." We don't warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. We will, however, make commercially reasonable efforts to:
- Maintain 99% uptime over any 90-day period
- Patch security vulnerabilities within 30 days of disclosure
- Notify you of breaches as required by PIPEDA
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Ontario law, our total liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the greater of:
- $100 CAD, or
- The fees you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim
We're not liable for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, business interruption, or CRA penalties from your filings.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally will be heard in the courts of Toronto, Ontario.
11. Changes to these terms
Material changes will be emailed to you at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. The current version always lives at businesstaxpro.ca/terms.
